Meditation Instruction
This class is for you if:
- You have never developed a meditation practice
- You have tried meditation, but either 'didn't get it' or felt too uncomfortable having to sit with all the noise and anxiety in your head.
- You have meditated before but had no purpose beyond self-awareness, calm abiding or returning to the breath. What else is possible?
- You currently meditate but would like specific instructions about the exploration of consciousness
This ongoing and progressive class will focus on 'Going Beyond'. An adventure and exploration in the relationship between Consciousness and Reality.
Deeply personal and individually experiential, these techniques and exercises will bring you into a closer proximity and understanding of your nature, purpose, unconscious habits, and open the door to living a more intentional, authentic life.
Taught with permission from Llama Michael Gregory, DBA Mindfulness Meditation Centers, in the lineage of the Tibetan Buddhist Kagyu Practice Tradition, the 17th Karmapa(s) and HH the Dalai Llama.
The purpose of the meditation practices which will be taught are to illuminate the following:
- Exercises to identify specific awareness of different aspects of (your) consciousness and how/why to understand them.
- To discover in greater detail how our relationship to reality functions.
- The development of sincere altruistic intention, compassion and empathy and why is this of primary importance?
- To learn about common pitfalls of self-delusion within consciousness awareness exploration, and how to recognize/correct them.
- How to develop larger awareness beyond and within our ordinary life.
Taught in non-denominational, non-exotic terms, in the language and cultural perspective of the average US citizen.
While this will be a fantastic journey and exploration of Mind, it is intended to be of useful, practical, and pragmatic use in your daily life.
This class will meet weekly. First class is free.
Session 1
Foundations
of Meditation
Meeting weekly
Sundays 2-4pm
This is an ongoing class and will require light meditation practice at home.
The 4 pillars of meditation:
1) Mindfulness of Breath
2) Mindfulness of Thought
3) Mindfulness of Emotions
4) Mindfulness of Mind
The above are inquiry meditations into observing and better understanding the interplay and consequences of these often-unconscious functions of Mind
Building on these skills, we will look at how to apply meditative practices to events and areas in our ordinary daily lives, as well as learning to temper moments of exaggerated emotion.
After this foundational class we open the door to progressive practices.
